FTIR-ATR Thermo Scientific Nicolet iS50

FTIR-ATR Thermo Scientific Nicolet iS50

Equipment: FTIR-ATR Thermo Scientific Nicolet iS50

Technique: Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy with in bench ATR

Contact Person: (UNINOVA): Rita Branquinho (ritasba@fct.unl.pt)

Description:

High resolution benchtop FTIR with in bench ATR.

FTIR (Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy) is an analytical technique used to identify organic, polymeric, and inorganic materials in powder, film and liquid samples. The FTIR analysis method uses infrared light to scan test samples and observe chemical properties. ATR (Attenuated Total Reflectance) is an accessory that allows the same analysis with minimal sample preparation.

Specifications:

  • Measurement in Transmission and ATR modes.
  • In bench Transmission and ATR modes with dedicated detector (DTGS/KBr).
  • Omnic Specta Software allows spectra acquisition and identification of compounds & mixtures by comparison with spectra database with over 10000 spectra.

Transmission mode

  • Measurement range: 4000 – 400 cm-1.
  • Sample size: 1 cm diameter or 15mmx15mm
  • Sample type: powders (in KBr pellets) and thin films (on c-Si wafers polished on both sides)

ATR mode

  • Measurement range: 4500 – 400 cm-1.
  • Diamond crystal with 3 mm diameter.
  • Sample size: 1mL (liquids), 100mg (powders), >3 mm diameter (films and bulk samples)
